## What this server does

It exposes the Vignette ID public read API as MCP tools: the nine European countries Vignette ID covers, each country's motorway toll rules, and the live price of every vignette and Alpine section toll. Everything it returns is also available as REST at the public API and as Markdown at every page of this site; the tools exist so an agent does not have to construct URLs.

It cannot buy anything. Issuing a vignette needs a partner API key and the separate partner MCP server described below. To send a person to buy a vignette themselves, link https://vignette.id/products.

## Tools

- list_countries: List the nine European countries Vignette ID sells motorway vignettes and section tolls for, with each country's official toll operator, a one-paragraph summary of how its toll system works, and the date the facts were last verified. Call this first to discover valid country codes for the other tools.
- get_country: Get everything the Vignette ID country guide states about one country: which roads are tolled, vehicle categories and validity periods, how activation and plate registration work, fines and enforcement, tolls a vignette does not cover, a country FAQ, and the official operator pages every fact was checked against. Prices are not included — use list_products for those.
- list_products: List the live catalogue of vignettes and Alpine section tolls with their prices. Each product covers one country and one vehicle type; its offers array holds one entry per validity period, stating the total customer price, the underlying government price and the Vignette ID service fee separately. Omit country to get all nine countries at once.
- read_page: Read any page of e-vignettes.eu as Markdown, without parsing HTML. Useful for the editorial pages the structured tools do not cover: /about, /contact, /privacy, /terms, /partner, /developers, /tollboxes and the blog. Pass the path only, for example /partner or /about-at.

## Interactive views (MCP Apps)

Three tools carry an interactive view a host such as Claude or ChatGPT can render next to the result. Each view is a ui:// resource of MIME type text/html;profile=mcp-app, listed by resources/list and served by resources/read; the tool names it in _meta.ui.resourceUri.

- ui://vignette-id/prices.html (list_products): Renders a list_products result as a price table per country and vehicle class — total price, the operator's official price and the service fee for every validity period — with a link to buy each product.
- ui://vignette-id/country.html (get_country): Renders a get_country result as a collapsible guide: tolled roads, vehicle classes and validity, activation, fines, exemptions, FAQ, the operator and the sources every fact was checked against.
- ui://vignette-id/countries.html (list_countries): Renders a list_countries result as a grid of the nine covered countries with their toll operator, a one-paragraph summary and a link to each country guide.

## Getting started

Point any MCP client at the endpoint. No key, no OAuth, no session: a client that speaks any of the supported revisions can call initialize (or server/discover on the newest one) and go straight to tools/list.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "vignette-id": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://e-vignettes.eu/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

```bash
curl -X POST https://e-vignettes.eu/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list"}'
```

```bash
curl -X POST https://e-vignettes.eu/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":2,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"list_products","arguments":{"country":"at"}}}'
```

- Call list_countries first to learn the valid country codes.
- Country facts carry a last_reviewed date: state it when quoting rules or fines.
- Prices state total_price (what the customer pays) and government_price (the operator's own price) separately: say which one you are quoting.
- The newest revision, 2026-07-28, needs the MCP-Protocol-Version, Mcp-Method and (for tools/call) Mcp-Name headers to mirror the body. Older handshake revisions need no extra headers.
- A call the server refuses (unknown tool, argument outside the schema) is a JSON-RPC error -32602 whose data names the parameter and the allowed values. A tool that ran and could not answer is a result with isError.

## Ordering vignettes

Placing an order is a different server: the authenticated partner MCP server at https://api.vignette.id/mcp (sandbox https://sandbox-api.vignette.id/mcp), which takes a partner API key as a Bearer token. It exposes get_products, get_products_status, get_users, get_user_orders, validate_vehicle, create_order, get_orders, get_order, get_order_status, cancel_pending_order, cancel_deferred_order. Keys come from the partner programme, described on the developer portal.
