# Vignette ID (e-vignettes.eu) — full reference Generated: 2026-10-17. Prices are live from the Vignette ID product API and include the service fee; official (government) prices are stated in each country section where relevant. Vignette ID is a Ukrainian-founded platform selling official digital motorway vignettes and section-toll tickets for Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova. The e-vignette is registered to the vehicle's licence plate and delivered by e-mail and in the account/app; nothing is stuck to the windscreen. Purchases can be made on the website, in the Vignette ID mobile app (iOS, Android) and via a partner API. ## Austria vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-at Official toll operator: ASFINAG Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Austria's motorways and expressways are tolled through ASFINAG's vignette, registered to a single licence plate rather than glued to the windscreen. Vignette ID issues the digital vignette by e-mail and in your account, and you pick the start date at checkout. Buying through Vignette ID also avoids the 18-day waiting period that Austrian distance-selling rules impose on consumers who order a 2-month or annual vignette directly from ASFINAG. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A): 1-day 14.95 EUR, 10-day 18.86 EUR, 2-month 39.10 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-at-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B): 1-day 17.75 EUR, 10-day 19.90 EUR, 2-month 42.35 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-at-2b - motorcycle (Vignette 1M): 1-day 9.85 EUR, 10-day 12.85 EUR, 2-month 19.30 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-at-1m ### Which roads require the Austria vignette Austria's motorways (Autobahnen, the A roads) and expressways (Schnellstrassen, the S roads) are built and operated by ASFINAG. Every car, campervan, van and motorcycle up to 3.5 tonnes technically permissible maximum mass needs a valid vignette to use them, even for a short stretch. A handful of border sections are toll-free: the A1 between Walserberg and Salzburg-Nord, the A12 between Kiefersfelden on the German border and Kufstein-Sud, the A14 between Hörbranz and Hohenems in Vorarlberg, and the A26 Linzer Westring. Ordinary town and city roads are not tolled, but any other motorway or expressway junction requires a vignette. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes do not use the vignette at all; they are charged the separate, distance-based GO-Maut toll instead. ### Vehicle categories and validity periods ASFINAG prices multi-track vehicles (cars, vans and campervans up to 3.5 t) separately from single-track vehicles (motorcycles, motorcycles with a sidecar and three-wheelers), which carry a lower tariff of their own. Austria has no height or engine-size classes: the only distinction that changes the price is multi-track against single-track. Four validity periods exist for 2026: a 1-day vignette, a 10-day vignette, a 2-month vignette and an annual vignette. The 1-day option is digital-only, sold since November 2023 and usable from 1 December 2023 onward, added for drivers who only cross Austria briefly. The annual vignette follows the Austrian vignette year, running from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year, so a 2026 annual vignette bought in good time covers over 14 months of driving. ### Buying and activation Since 2018 the digital vignette has been linked to the vehicle's licence plate instead of a windscreen sticker; a physical sticker is still sold in Austria but is not needed once you buy digitally. A single digital vignette registered to a transferable number plate can be used on up to three vehicles that share it. Austrian distance-selling rules give consumers a right of withdrawal, and ASFINAG applies it by making a 2-month or annual vignette bought by a consumer in its own online shop valid only from the 18th day after purchase; the 1-day and 10-day vignettes and purchases at a fuel station or toll booth are unaffected. That waiting period does not apply when you order through Vignette ID, because the vignette is bought on commercial terms rather than as a consumer distance sale, so a 2-month or annual vignette can start on the date you need it. You choose the start date at checkout, the vignette arrives by e-mail and in your account, and payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay with no account sign-up required. The Flex add-on lets you change the registered licence plate after purchase for a fee. ### Fines and enforcement ASFINAG and the Austrian police enforce the vignette with automatic number-plate recognition cameras mounted over motorways and expressways, which check each passing plate against the vignette database, backed up by random roadside checks by ASFINAG staff and police. A vehicle caught without a valid vignette is first billed a replacement toll (Ersatzmaut): since 1 January 2026 this is 200 euros for cars and vans up to 3.5 t and 100 euros for motorcycles, payable within a set deadline. If the replacement toll is not paid in time, the case is referred to administrative fine proceedings, where penalties of 300 to 3,000 euros can be imposed. If you realise you have entered a motorway without a vignette, buying one before your next journey on the network is the only way to become compliant again; it does not cover the trip already made. ### Tolls not covered by the vignette Several Alpine crossings are charged as separate section tolls on top of the vignette: the A9 Bosruck and Gleinalm tunnels, the A10 Tauern and Katschberg tunnels, the A11 Karawanken tunnel, the entire A13 Brenner motorway, and the S16 Arlberg tunnel. A vignette alone does not let you use these; you need a section-toll ticket as well. Digital section-toll tickets for these tunnels and passes, sold as a single-trip or multi-trip pass, are available alongside the vignette on this page, so you can buy both together for a trip that crosses the Alps. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vignette for Austria if I only drive through? A: Yes. Using any Austrian motorway or expressway requires a valid vignette for vehicles up to 3.5 t, even for a short transit, unless you stay on one of the toll-free border sections named above. Q: Can I buy the Austria vignette online before I arrive? A: Yes, all four validity periods can be bought online in advance and you choose the start date at checkout. Ordering a 2-month or annual vignette from ASFINAG's own shop as a consumer means waiting 18 days before it is valid; buying through Vignette ID does not carry that waiting period. Q: Is the Austria vignette digital or a sticker? A: Since 2018, ASFINAG's digital vignette is registered to the vehicle's licence plate rather than displayed on the windscreen. A paper sticker still exists in Austria, but you do not need one once you have bought the digital version. Q: What is the fine for driving without a vignette in Austria? A: A vehicle caught without a valid vignette is first charged a replacement toll of 200 euros for cars and vans or 100 euros for motorcycles (since 1 January 2026). Unpaid replacement tolls can lead to administrative fines of 300 to 3,000 euros. Q: Does the Austria vignette cover the Brenner motorway or the Tauern tunnel? A: No. The A13 Brenner motorway and the A10 Tauern and Katschberg tunnels are section tolls charged separately from the vignette, along with the A9 Gleinalm and Bosruck tunnels, the A11 Karawanken tunnel and the S16 Arlberg tunnel. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying an Austria vignette? A: The digital vignette is fixed to the plate registered at purchase. Vignette ID's Flex add-on lets you change the linked plate afterwards for a fee; otherwise a different plate needs its own vignette. Q: Do motorcycles pay the same vignette tariff as cars in Austria? A: No. ASFINAG treats motorcycles, motorcycles with a sidecar and three-wheelers as single-track vehicles with their own, lower tariff, separate from cars and vans, though the same 1-day, 10-day, 2-month and annual periods apply. Q: Is there really an 18-day wait for the Austrian annual vignette? A: Only when a consumer buys it directly from ASFINAG online, where the statutory right of withdrawal delays the start of a 2-month or annual vignette to the 18th day. The 1-day and 10-day vignettes are exempt, as are purchases at a point of sale, and orders placed through Vignette ID are not subject to the delay either. ### Sources - ASFINAG - Vignette - ASFINAG - Digital vignette - ASFINAG Help Centre - Vignette validity - ASFINAG Help Centre - Vignette - ASFINAG toll shop - Digital vignette - ASFINAG toll shop - Digital section toll - Oesterreich.gv.at - Vignette for vehicles up to 3.5 t - ASFINAG press release (OTS) - 1-day vignette from December 2023 - ADAC - Toll-free motorway sections in Austria - ADAC - Replacement toll (Ersatzmaut) 2026 - European Consumer Centre - Fines for missing Austria vignette ## Switzerland vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-ch Official toll operator: Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS / BAZG) (e-vignette (Via Portal)) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Switzerland charges a single annual vignette for all cars, motorcycles, vans, motorhomes and trailers up to 3.5 tonnes using its motorways and expressways. Buy it online before you travel and it is linked to your number plate within minutes of payment, so there is no sticker to collect and no border queue. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A): annual 50.00 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-ch-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B): annual 59.00 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-ch-2b - motorcycle (Vignette 1M): annual 50.00 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-ch-1m ### Which roads require the Swiss vignette The vignette is administered by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS, known in German as BAZG) and is required on Switzerland's national roads of class 1 and 2, the motorways and expressways that form the country's long-distance network. These roads carry Switzerland's distinctive green motorway signs, unlike the blue signs on ordinary main roads, which remain free of charge. Cantonal and municipal roads and town centres are not covered by the vignette. Two Alpine road tunnels, the Great St Bernard Tunnel and the Munt la Schera Tunnel, are charged separately even though they connect to the national road network; these are covered below. ### Vehicle categories and how long the vignette lasts The vignette applies to motor vehicles and trailers with a gross weight of up to 3.5 tonnes: cars, motorcycles, delivery vans, motorhomes and campers, plus caravans and other trailers, each of which needs its own vignette alongside the towing vehicle's. Trailers towed by a motorcycle are exempt. Heavier vehicles are not covered by the vignette at all and instead pay the distance-based heavy vehicle charge (LSVA). Unlike neighbouring countries, Switzerland sells only one type of vignette: an annual one, valid from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year, a 14-month window. There is no separate weekly, monthly or short-stay version. Its price is fixed by law in Swiss francs and is the same for every standard vehicle category described above. ### Buying and activation Two versions of the vignette exist side by side. The electronic e-vignette has been sold since 1 August 2023 through the official Via Portal and is linked to the vehicle's number plate and country of registration rather than to the vehicle itself; the adhesive sticker is still available, mainly through automobile clubs and, in exceptional cases, at some customs offices, and stays linked to the specific vehicle it is stuck to. Because the e-vignette is tied to the plate, only the vehicle category, country of registration and number plate are needed to buy it, and it works for any vehicle later carrying that plate. Buying in advance and choosing your own start date is possible with a reseller such as Vignette ID, which activates the vignette in the account or by e-mail within a few minutes of payment being confirmed, with no physical sticker or Swiss account required. ### Fines and enforcement The FOCBS and cantonal police enforce the vignette requirement on the road, checking validity by scanning the plate or, for the adhesive sticker, by inspecting the windscreen. Driving on a vignette-liable road without a valid vignette results in a fine of CHF 200, and the vignette itself still has to be bought on top of that fine. If you realise you have forgotten one, buy the e-vignette before continuing rather than risk a check further along the motorway. ### Tolls not covered by the vignette Two mountain tunnels sit outside the vignette system and charge their own toll regardless of whether a valid vignette is displayed. The Great St Bernard Tunnel links the canton of Valais with Italy's Aosta Valley, and the Munt la Schera Tunnel links the Engadin in Graubunden with Livigno in Italy; both sell single-journey, return and multi-trip tickets at their own toll booths. ### Good to know for foreign drivers Liechtenstein has no motorway network of its own and does not issue a separate vignette, so a trip that stays inside the principality needs none; as soon as you continue onto Switzerland's national roads, the same vignette covered on this page applies. A vignette expires on 31 January, so drivers crossing the New Year should check its dates still cover the whole trip rather than assume a fresh one is only needed from 1 January. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vignette for Switzerland if I only drive through on the motorway? A: Yes. Any use of a national road of class 1 or 2, even for a short transit journey, requires a valid vignette for that vehicle, regardless of how far you travel. Q: Can I buy the Switzerland vignette online before I arrive? A: Yes. The e-vignette is bought against your number plate before you set off, and with a reseller such as Vignette ID you can choose the start date in advance and have it active before you cross the border. Q: Is the Switzerland vignette digital or a sticker? A: Both exist in parallel. The e-vignette, sold since August 2023, is linked to your number plate; the older adhesive sticker is linked to the vehicle itself and is still sold through automobile clubs and some customs offices. Q: What is the fine for driving without a vignette in Switzerland? A: Driving on a vignette-liable road without one carries a fine of CHF 200, and you still have to buy the vignette on top of the fine. Q: Does the Swiss vignette cover the Great St Bernard or Munt la Schera tunnels? A: No. Both tunnels charge their own separate toll at their own toll booths, in addition to and independently of the motorway vignette. Q: How long does the Swiss vignette last? A: There is only one duration: an annual vignette valid from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year, a 14-month window. Switzerland does not sell shorter vignettes. Q: Do I need a separate vignette for my caravan or trailer? A: Yes. Any trailer or caravan up to 3.5 tonnes needs its own vignette in addition to the towing vehicle's, except trailers towed by a motorcycle, which are exempt. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying my Swiss e-vignette? A: Switzerland allows one correction to a domestic plate, or a correction within 24 hours for a foreign plate; Vignette ID's optional Flex add-on covers a genuine plate change for a fee if you need one later. ### Sources - FOCBS (BAZG) - Motorway charge (vignette) - FOCBS (BAZG) - E-vignette and adhesive vignette: two types - FOCBS (BAZG) - FAQ on vignette and e-vignette purchase - FOCBS (BAZG) - Swiss motorway vignette, two types - ch.ch (Swiss Confederation, cantons and communes portal) - Motorway vignette - Great St Bernard Tunnel - official site - Wikipedia - Munt la Schera Tunnel - Wikipedia - Motorways of Switzerland ## Czech Republic vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-cz Official toll operator: State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI) (eDalnice) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 The Czech Republic has used a fully digital motorway vignette, eDalnice, since December 2021: there is no sticker, and the vignette is linked to your licence plate and vehicle country of registration. Any vehicle with four or more wheels and a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes needs one to use the tolled motorway network. Buy it here and it is normally active within a few minutes of payment being confirmed. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A): 1-day 15.15 EUR, 10-day 18.65 EUR, 1-month 24.95 EUR, annual 114.00 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-cz-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B): 1-day 16.55 EUR, 10-day 19.55 EUR, 1-month 25.55 EUR, annual 116.80 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-cz-2b ### Which roads require a vignette The electronic vignette system, eDalnice, is run by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI) and operated by CENDIS. It covers the tolled sections of the Czech motorway (dalnice) network, including the D1, D2, D3, D5, D8, D10, D11, D35, D46, D48, D49, D52 and D56, which connect Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Plzen with the borders of Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. Not every kilometre of these roads is charged. Short sections, typically bypasses close to larger cities, are toll-free and are marked with an additional sign reading Bez casoveho poplatku (without time-based fee). Since the free stretches change as new sections open, check the current toll-road map on edalnice.cz before relying on a short local trip staying free. ### Vehicle categories and validity periods The vignette obligation applies to road vehicles with at least four wheels and a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, regardless of whether a trailer is attached. Motorcycles are exempt altogether. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes do not use the vignette; they fall under the separate electronic toll system described below. Since a March 2024 reform, four validity periods are available: 1 day, 10 days, 30 days (the monthly vignette) and 1 year. The 1-day option was introduced in that reform for drivers who only need a single crossing. The annual vignette runs for 365 days from a start date you choose, not a fixed calendar year, and that date can be set up to three months ahead of purchase. Vehicles powered solely by electricity or hydrogen are exempt. For Czech-registered electric and hydrogen vehicles the exemption is automatic; foreign-registered ones must first submit an exemption notice to SFDI. There is no reduced-rate category for hybrid, plug-in hybrid or CNG-powered vehicles: they need a full-price vignette like any petrol or diesel car. ### Buying and activation The Czech vignette has been sold only in electronic form since 2021; there is no physical sticker to display. It is registered against your licence plate number and country of registration, so what you enter at checkout must match your vehicle exactly. Official channels also include Czech Post branches, EuroOil/Cepro filling stations and vending machines at border crossings and rest areas. You choose the start date at purchase, from the same day up to three months ahead, which is useful for booking a vignette before a trip. If you make a mistake with the plate, a Flex add-on lets you change the plate on an already-purchased vignette for a fee. ### Fines and enforcement Checks are carried out jointly by the Czech Police and the Customs Administration. Enforcement combines automatic number-plate recognition at fixed gantries over the motorway with patrol vehicles fitted with camera systems, plus spot checks at rest areas and parking facilities. Driving a vehicle that needs a vignette without a valid one can be fined on the spot up to CZK 5,000, or up to CZK 20,000 if the case goes to formal administrative proceedings; falsely claiming an exemption can be fined up to CZK 100,000. If you realise you are missing a vignette, buy one immediately online or at the next filling station or Czech Post branch; this does not cancel a fine already issued but stops further exposure. ### Tolls not covered by the vignette The vignette only covers vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. Heavier vehicles pay through a separate, distance-based electronic toll system covering more than 2,400 km of motorways and first-class roads, run by the CzechToll/SkyToll consortium using satellite- and microwave-based on-board units; it is unrelated to eDalnice and vehicles under 3.5 tonnes never need to register for it. There are no separately tolled tunnels or bridges for cars and vans in the Czech Republic on top of the vignette: once you hold a valid one for the relevant dates, no further toll applies on the sections it covers. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vignette for the Czech Republic if I only drive through on the motorway? A: Yes. Even a short transit on a tolled motorway section, for example between Germany and Slovakia via Prague or Brno, requires a valid vignette for the day you travel. A 1-day vignette is available for exactly this case. Q: Can I buy the Czech vignette online before I arrive? A: Yes. You can buy it in advance and choose a start date up to three months ahead, so it becomes active exactly when you plan to enter the tolled network. Q: Is the Czech vignette digital or a sticker? A: It is fully digital. Since 2021 there is no windscreen sticker; the vignette is checked electronically against your licence plate and country of registration, so nothing needs to be displayed in the vehicle. Q: What is the fine for driving without a vignette in the Czech Republic? A: Police or Customs can issue an on-the-spot fine of up to CZK 5,000, and unpaid or contested cases can be escalated to formal administrative proceedings with a fine of up to CZK 20,000. Q: Do motorcycles need a Czech vignette? A: No. Motorcycles are explicitly exempt from the Czech motorway vignette requirement, regardless of engine size. Q: Are electric cars exempt from the Czech vignette? A: Yes. Vehicles powered solely by electricity or hydrogen are exempt. Czech-registered electric and hydrogen vehicles are exempt automatically, while foreign-registered ones must first file an exemption notice with the toll authority. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying a Czech vignette? A: Yes, using the Flex add-on, which lets you update the registered plate on an already-purchased vignette for a fee if you made an error or change vehicles. Q: Does the Czech vignette cover tolls for trucks and heavy vehicles? A: No. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes use a separate, distance-based electronic toll system rather than the vignette, and vehicles under 3.5 tonnes are never required to join that system. ### Sources - eDalnice (SFDI) - official vignette system overview - eDalnice - vehicle exemptions - eDalnice - checks and fines (kontrola a pokuty) - eDalnice media - fines for driving without a valid vignette - eDalnice media - March 2024 validity period and pricing reform - gov.cz Public Administration Portal - motorway vignettes - gov.cz Public Administration Portal - motorway toll exemptions - Ceske dalnice (Road and Motorway Directorate) - vignette information - CzechToll - electronic toll system for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes ## Slovakia vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-sk Official toll operator: Narodna dialnicna spolocnost, a.s. (National Motorway Company, NDS) (eznamka) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Slovakia's motorways and expressways are covered by a fully electronic vignette called eznamka, operated by the National Motorway Company (NDS) and linked to your licence plate rather than a windscreen sticker. Any car or van up to 3.5 tonnes must have one to use the tolled network, while motorcycles are exempt. Buy it online through Vignette ID, choose your start date in advance, and it activates automatically once payment is verified. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A (M1)): 1-day 14.85 EUR, 10-day 19.25 EUR, 1-month 24.45 EUR, annual 99.95 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-sk-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B (N1)): 1-day 16.70 EUR, 10-day 19.86 EUR, 1-month 25.85 EUR, annual 99.95 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-sk-2b ### Which roads require the vignette Slovakia's electronic vignette covers the country's motorways (D roads) and expressways (R roads), run by the National Motorway Company (NDS) through its eznamka.sk portal. A valid vignette is required on any tolled section, even for a short stretch. A few sections are excluded. About 12 km of the D1 between Poprad-Vychod and Spissky Stvrtok, and about 5 km of the D2 between Brodske and Kuty, remain temporarily free during construction. Around Bratislava, since the D1/D4 interchange fully opened in June 2026, passenger cars can use the whole outer D4 bypass and nearby sections of the D1 and R7 without a vignette; lorries and buses over 3.5 tonnes still pay the standard toll there. ### Vehicle categories and validity periods Two paid categories exist: a vehicle vignette for any two-track motor vehicle or combination up to 3.5 tonnes, and for any M1 passenger car regardless of weight; and a trailer vignette for an O1 or O2 trailer whenever its weight, added to the towing vehicle's, takes the combination over 3.5 tonnes, in which case the trailer needs its own vignette on its own plate. Motorcycles, being single-track, are exempt and use the network free of charge. Four validity periods are on sale for 2026: 1-day, 10-day, 30-day and 365-day. The 1-day option, added in 2024, has proved popular for short trips; NDS reported that about one in four vignettes sold in early 2026 was a 1-day one. Since 2024 the long option is also no longer a fixed calendar-year sticker: the 365-day vignette runs for 365 consecutive days from whatever date the buyer chooses, so it can start at any point in the year. ### Buying and activation The vignette has been fully electronic since 2016, registered to the licence plate rather than displayed as a sticker. Through Vignette ID it is registered to your plate and confirmed by e-mail and in your account; payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, no account is required, and activation is normally completed within minutes of payment being verified. You can choose a start date in advance. A Flex add-on lets you update the plate on an existing vignette for a fee if you change vehicles or made a mistake. A trailer needing its own vignette under the O1/O2 rule above is bought and registered separately, against the trailer's own plate. ### Fines and enforcement Fixed and mobile cameras on the tolled network read plates and match them against NDS's database of valid vignettes, and NDS also runs joint roadside checks with the traffic police. Using a tolled section without a valid vignette is an administrative offence under the Vignette Act (Act No. 488/2013 Coll.); reported fines can reach up to 500 euros, whether issued on the spot by police or later in proceedings brought by NDS, with a reduced amount typically available for prompt payment. If you realise you missed buying one, the safest option is to buy a vignette immediately online or via the app before continuing on the tolled network. ### Tolls not covered by the vignette The vignette only covers vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. Heavier lorries and buses pay a separate, distance-based electronic toll on Slovak motorways, expressways and selected first- and second-class roads, charged per kilometre and collected by SkyToll on NDS's behalf using satellite positioning. Slovakia adds no further toll for any tunnel or bridge. When the 7.5 km Visnove tunnel on the D1 near Zilina opened in December 2025 after 27 years of construction, the state confirmed it would carry no extra charge beyond the standard vignette. ### Good to know for foreign drivers A vignette is needed even for a short transit near a border crossing, so buy one before joining the tolled network rather than after. Because the system checks your plate against a database, enter the registration number exactly as shown on your registration certificate; a mismatch means the vignette will not be recognised at a camera check even though you paid for it. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vignette for Slovakia if I only drive through on the motorway? A: Yes. A vignette is required for any use of a tolled motorway or expressway section, even a short transit near a border crossing, so buy one before you enter the network rather than after. Q: Can I buy the Slovakia vignette online before I arrive? A: Yes. The vignette is bought against your licence plate and you can pick a start date in advance, so you can buy it ahead of your trip and have it activate on the day you choose. Q: Is the Slovakia vignette digital or a sticker? A: It is fully digital. Slovakia replaced paper stickers with an electronic, plate-linked vignette in 2016, so there is nothing to display on the windscreen. Q: What is the fine for driving in Slovakia without a valid vignette? A: Missing or invalid vignettes are treated as an administrative offence under the Vignette Act, with reported fines of up to 500 euros, whether issued on the spot by police or later in proceedings brought by NDS. Q: Do I need a separate vignette for a trailer or caravan in Slovakia? A: Only if the trailer is in category O1 or O2 and, added to the towing vehicle, the combination exceeds 3.5 tonnes; in that case the trailer needs its own vignette registered to its own plate. Q: Does the Slovakia vignette cover the Visnove tunnel on the D1? A: Yes. Slovakia did not introduce a separate toll for the Visnove tunnel when it opened in December 2025, so a standard vignette covers it like the rest of the D1. Q: Do motorcycles need a vignette in Slovakia? A: No. The vignette obligation applies to two-track vehicles, so single-track motorcycles can use Slovak motorways and expressways free of charge. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying a Slovakia vignette? A: Yes, with the Flex add-on you can update the plate on an existing vignette for a fee instead of buying a new one, which is useful if you change vehicles or made a typing mistake. ### Sources - eznamka.sk - Electronic vignettes in the Slovak Republic (NDS) - eznamka.sk - Vehicles subject to vignette payment - eznamka.sk - Vehicles exempt from vignette payment - eznamka.sk - Types and prices of vignettes - eznamka.sk - Glossary of terms - eznamka.sk - Network of specified road sections - NDS press release - outer Bratislava D4 bypass free for cars - NDS press release - 10 years of the electronic vignette - SkyToll - electronic toll for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes ## Hungary vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-hu Official toll operator: Nemzeti Útdíjfizetési Szolgáltató Zrt. (National Toll Payment Services, NÚSZ) (e-matrica) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Hungary's e-matrica is a digital vignette linked to your licence plate rather than a windscreen sticker, required on the country's tolled motorways and expressways, including the M0 ring road around Budapest. It is sold in daily, 10-day, monthly and annual versions and is checked electronically by roadside cameras, so there is nothing to display inside the car. Buy it here before you travel and it typically activates within a few minutes of your payment being confirmed. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A (D1)): 1-day 21.95 EUR, 10-day 25.85 EUR, 1-month 37.85 EUR, annual 184.00 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-hu-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B (D2)): 1-day 29.30 EUR, 10-day 35.90 EUR, 1-month 52.80 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-hu-2b - trailer (Vignette U): 1-day 24.30 EUR, 10-day 24.30 EUR, 1-month 36.30 EUR, annual 172.30 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-hu-u - motorcycle (Vignette 1M (D1M)): 1-day 12.30 EUR, 10-day 15.30 EUR, 1-month 24.40 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-hu-1m ### Which roads need a Hungarian vignette The e-matrica is required on Hungary's motorways and expressways, the roads carrying an M prefix such as the M1, M3, M5 and M7, and is issued by Nemzeti Útdíjfizetési Szolgáltató Zrt (NÚSZ Zrt, National Toll Payment Services), the state toll operator. Ordinary single- and double-digit national roads do not need a vignette. Since 1 January 2024 the requirement also covers the southern and eastern sectors of the M0 ring road around Budapest and the Megyeri bridge that carries it over the Danube, previously free, along with parts of the M4, M30, M31, M44 and M76. A few expressways, including the M8, the M80 and the M4 spur to Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, remain toll-free. ### Vehicle categories and validity periods Hungary sorts vehicles into five fee categories: D1 for cars and motorhomes up to 3.5 tonnes carrying no more than 7 people; D1M for motorcycles; D2 for vans and other vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes with more than 7 seats, or that otherwise do not fit D1; B2 for buses with more than 9 seats including the driver's; and U for a trailer towed by a D2 or B2 vehicle, bought against the towing vehicle's plate. For 2026 the national e-matrica comes as a 1-day vignette (introduced in March 2024), a 10-day vignette, a monthly vignette, and an annual vignette running from your chosen start date to 31 January of the following year, whichever month you buy it in. NÚSZ also sells cheaper county and regional annual vignettes covering only the motorway sections inside one county or region. Which of these categories and periods you can order here is shown in the price table above. ### Buying and activating the e-matrica The Hungarian vignette is fully digital; there is no sticker to display, and the system checks your registration plate electronically, so an incorrectly entered plate, including accented or non-standard characters, is a common reason a vignette shows as invalid. You choose the vehicle's country, plate and validity start date when you buy, and cover can be arranged well ahead of your trip. A trailer is registered separately under category U but is linked to the towing vehicle's plate, so both vehicles need their own valid vignette for the same dates. Through Vignette ID, activation is normally confirmed within minutes of payment being verified, no account is required, and a Flex add-on lets you change the registered plate afterwards for a fee. ### Fines and enforcement NÚSZ Zrt enforces the e-matrica with automatic number-plate recognition cameras along the toll network; there are no barriers or toll booths, so a missing or invalid vignette is picked up automatically. Drivers who enter a tolled road by mistake have 60 minutes from the moment of entry to buy a valid vignette before a supplementary fee applies. For 2026 the base supplementary fee for using a tolled road without a valid vignette is 27,790 forints if paid within 60 days of the notice, rising to 95,730 forints after that. Buying the wrong category, for example a car vignette for a vehicle that needed the van category, carries a smaller differential fee of 15,530 forints within 60 days or 49,190 forints after. A first notice can be cancelled by buying a new annual national e-matrica and applying within 75 days, provided the fee is unpaid and from the current year. ### Tolls the vignette does not cover The e-matrica only applies to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes plus buses in category B2. Goods vehicles and vehicle combinations over 3.5 tonnes gross weight pay HU-GO instead, a separate distance-based electronic toll charged per kilometre travelled on the tolled network and calculated by axle count and emission class rather than as a flat-fee vignette. There are no separate bridge or tunnel tolls for car drivers on top of the vignette; since the 2024 change, the Megyeri bridge over the Danube, previously a free crossing, is included in the standard M0 vignette requirement rather than charged separately. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vignette for Hungary if I am only driving through on the motorway? A: Yes. Even a short transit on an M-numbered motorway or expressway, including the M0 ring road around Budapest, needs a valid e-matrica for the day you travel; ordinary national roads do not require one. Q: Can I buy the Hungary e-vignette online before I arrive? A: Yes, the e-matrica can be bought online in advance for a chosen future start date, so it is already registered to your plate and ready before you cross the border. Q: Is the Hungarian vignette digital or a sticker? A: It is fully digital and linked to your licence plate; Hungary does not use a windscreen sticker, so there is nothing to display in the car. Q: What is the fine for driving without a valid vignette in Hungary? A: In 2026 the base supplementary fee is 27,790 forints if you pay within 60 days of the notice, rising to 95,730 forints after that; a smaller differential fee applies if you bought a vignette for the wrong vehicle category. Q: Does the Hungarian vignette cover the M0 ring road and the Megyeri bridge around Budapest? A: Yes. The southern and eastern sectors of the M0 and the Megyeri bridge became toll-required on 1 January 2024 and are covered by the same national e-matrica as the rest of the motorway network. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying a Hungarian vignette? A: Through Vignette ID you can add the Flex option to change the registered plate after purchase for a fee; without Flex the vignette stays tied to the plate you originally entered. Q: Do trucks and buses use the same e-matrica as cars? A: Buses use category B2, and vehicles over 3.5 tonnes such as trucks pay the separate distance-based HU-GO toll rather than an e-matrica; cars, motorcycles, vans and their trailers use categories D1, D1M, D2 and U. Q: What happens if I bought the wrong vignette category by mistake? A: NÚSZ can charge a differential supplementary fee for the gap between the category you paid for and the one your vehicle actually needed, so it is worth checking your vehicle's weight and seat count before buying. ### Sources - NÚSZ Zrt. - e-vignette system information (official, English) - NÚSZ Zrt. - 2026 e-matrica rates and supplementary fees (official) - NÚSZ Zrt. - HU-GO electronic toll information (official, English) - National Mobile Payment Plc. - e-vignette fees and validity periods - Portfolio.hu - 2024 toll network expansion (M0, M31, M44, M76) - Világgazdaság - toll-free motorway sections list - Borsonline/Origo - 2026 supplementary-fee cancellation rules ## Slovenia vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-si Official toll operator: DARS d.d. (e-vinjeta) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Slovenia's e-vinjeta is a digital, plate-linked toll registration operated by DARS d.d., required for every vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes on the country's motorways and expressways. It replaced the paper sticker in December 2021, so there is nothing to display on the windscreen. Buy it here before you cross the border and it is normally active within a few minutes of payment being verified. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A): 7-day 21.65 EUR, 1-month 37.65 EUR, annual 123.95 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-si-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B): 7-day 38.40 EUR, 1-month 69.95 EUR, annual 244.95 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-si-2b - motorcycle (Vignette 1M): 7-day 12.30 EUR, 6-month 36.00 EUR, annual 64.91 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-si-1m ### Which roads require the Slovenian e-vignette Slovenia's motorways and expressways are built and tolled by DARS d.d., and every vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes maximum permissible weight needs a valid e-vinjeta registered to its licence plate before entering that network. Regular national and local roads outside the marked motorway and expressway system are not tolled and do not need a vignette. The e-vinjeta replaced the old paper sticker vignette on 1 December 2021. The system checks number plates rather than a sticker in the windscreen, so there is nothing to display in the vehicle, and buying one for the wrong plate or country of registration means the payment is not recognised on the road. ### Vehicle classes and validity periods Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes are split into two toll classes, and this is where most foreign drivers make a mistake. Class 2A covers vehicles with a height of up to 1.30 metres measured above the front axle: nearly every ordinary car, hatchback, sedan and estate. Class 2B covers vehicles taller than 1.30 metres above the front axle, such as larger vans, pickups, some SUVs, minibuses and campers, even though both classes share the same 3.5 tonne weight limit. Motorcycles and other single-track vehicles form a separate class 1. Because the split is based on measured height rather than the vehicle's registration category, two similar-looking vehicles can fall into different classes; DARS publishes a list of specifically measured models to resolve borderline cases. Classes 2A and 2B can be bought as a weekly (7-day), monthly (30-day) or annual (365-day) e-vinjeta, with the annual pass running 365 days from whichever start date you choose rather than a fixed calendar year. Motorcycles can buy a weekly, a semi-annual (180-day) or an annual pass. Picking 2A for a vehicle that DARS classes as 2B is a common and costly error, since it does not cover the vehicle. ### Buying and activation The e-vinjeta is bought online and linked electronically to the vehicle's plate and country of registration; there is no sticker to collect. You choose the start date at checkout, and once payment is verified the registration becomes active from that date, so it is worth buying a few days ahead rather than at the border. Vignette ID delivers confirmation by e-mail and in your account, payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, no account sign-up is required, and a Flex add-on lets you change the registered plate after purchase for a fee. If the plate is wrong, correcting an annual or semi-annual e-vinjeta means buying a fresh one for the right plate and applying for a partial refund of the unused period on the old one; weekly and monthly e-vinjetas are not eligible for this kind of refund. ### Fines and enforcement DARS enforces the e-vinjeta with automatic number-plate cameras along the network, at fixed control points and in mobile toll-supervision vehicles, rather than with roadside stickers or barriers. Using a tolled road without a valid, correctly matched e-vinjeta is an offence under Slovenia's Motorway Toll Act and carries a standard fine of 300 euros issued to the registered keeper; related offences, such as unlawfully moving a valid vignette's registration to a different plate, are penalised separately and can attract a higher fine. There is no grace period, so if you realise you have forgotten one, buy an e-vinjeta immediately and leave the motorway at the next opportunity. ### Tolls not covered by the vignette The Karavanke (Karawanken) road tunnel on the A2 motorway toward the Austrian border is not included in the e-vinjeta and is charged as a separate toll on top of it, in addition to, not instead of, the e-vinjeta needed for the rest of the network. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vignette for Slovenia if I only drive through on the motorway? A: Yes. Any vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes using a Slovenian motorway or expressway needs a valid e-vinjeta for its plate, even for a short transit journey of only a few kilometres, for example between Austria, Italy, Hungary and Croatia. Q: Can I buy the Slovenia e-vignette online before I arrive? A: Yes. The e-vinjeta is registered electronically to your plate, so you can buy it in advance and choose the exact date it becomes valid, rather than needing to stop at the border or a petrol station. Q: Is the Slovenia vignette digital or a sticker? A: It is fully digital. Slovenia replaced the paper sticker vignette with the plate-linked e-vinjeta on 1 December 2021, so there is nothing to display on the windscreen. Q: What is the difference between vignette classes 2A and 2B in Slovenia? A: Both cover vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. Class 2A applies where the vehicle's height above the front axle is up to 1.30 metres, which covers most ordinary cars; class 2B applies where that height exceeds 1.30 metres, which typically covers taller vans, campers, minibuses and some SUVs. Q: What is the fine for driving without a vignette in Slovenia? A: Using a tolled motorway or expressway without a valid, correctly matched e-vinjeta is punishable with a fine of 300 euros under Slovenia's Motorway Toll Act, enforced through automatic number-plate cameras and toll-supervision vehicles. Q: Does the Slovenia vignette cover the Karavanke tunnel? A: No. The Karavanke tunnel on the A2 towards the Austrian border charges its own separate toll in addition to the e-vinjeta required for the rest of the Slovenian motorway network. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying a Slovenian e-vignette? A: Yes, using the Flex add-on for a fee if you need to switch plates after purchase. Otherwise, correcting a wrong plate on an annual or semi-annual e-vinjeta means buying a new one and requesting a partial refund of the unused period; weekly and monthly e-vinjetas are not refundable this way. Q: Which vehicles fall into vignette class 1 in Slovenia? A: Class 1 covers motorcycles and other single-track vehicles, which can buy a weekly, semi-annual or annual e-vinjeta, separate from the 2A and 2B classes used for cars, vans and other two-track vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. ### Sources - DARS e-vinjeta official webshop – vehicle classes and plate registration - DARS e-vinjeta FAQ – annual validity calculation, fines, camera enforcement - GOV.SI (Stop Birokraciji) – e-vignette introduction date, 1 December 2021 - ADAC – Slovenia e-vignette validity periods, classes and Karavanke tunnel toll - OAMTC – Slovenia vignette validity periods and fine range - eTransport.si – e-vinjeta validity periods by vehicle class ## Romania vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-ro Official toll operator: Compania Nationala de Administrare a Infrastructurii Rutiere (CNAIR) (rovinieta) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Romania's rovinieta is an electronic road-use fee tied to your licence plate, not a windscreen sticker. It is required on almost every national road and motorway in the country, not just the motorway network, so most journeys through Romania need one. Buy it here before you cross the border and it activates automatically once payment is confirmed. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A): 1-day 10.95 EUR, 10-day 13.65 EUR, 1-month 17.75 EUR, 2-month 25.35 EUR, annual 72.00 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-ro-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B): 1-day 18.75 EUR, 10-day 22.75 EUR, 1-month 33.80 EUR, 2-month 49.85 EUR, annual 152.20 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-ro-2b ### Which roads require the rovinieta The rovinieta is issued and enforced by CNAIR, the national road infrastructure authority, under Government Ordinance 15/2002. Unlike most European vignette countries, it is not limited to motorways: it covers the entire national road network, meaning motorways (autostrazi, prefixed A) and ordinary national roads (drumuri nationale, prefixed DN), including the national roads that also carry European route numbers. The main exception is road sections that run through built-up areas (intravilan), between a town's entry and exit signs, where no rovinieta is charged. County and local roads (DJ and DC) are not part of the tolled network at all. Because so much of Romania's inter-city driving happens on DN roads rather than motorways, a rovinieta is needed for far more routes here than in countries where only the motorway network is tolled. ### Vehicle categories and validity periods Vehicles are split into weight- and seat-based categories, from A (cars) and B (goods vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass) through several heavier goods and bus categories. Cars and vans are what most foreign drivers need to buy. For category A cars, the rovinieta comes in five fixed periods: 1 day, 10 days, 30 days, 60 days or 12 months, counted from a start date you choose rather than the purchase date. The 7-day and 90-day periods that appear in some tariff tables belong to the heavier categories, not to cars. A trailer or caravan towed behind a car does not need its own rovinieta; the fee is charged only on the towing vehicle. From 1 October 2026, CNAIR is introducing TollRo, a distance-based electronic toll for goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, replacing their flat-fee rovinieta. Cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes are unaffected and keep the same rovinieta and validity periods. ### Buying and activation The Romanian rovinieta has been fully electronic for years: it is registered against your licence plate in CNAIR's national database, and no sticker is issued or displayed. You order it with your plate number and vehicle category, and it runs for the period you selected from the start date you chose. For every period longer than a single day you also need the vehicle's VIN (chassis number), which CNAIR requires alongside the plate, so keep the registration document to hand when ordering. Because the record is plate-based, a mistyped registration number leaves the vehicle uncovered even though payment went through, so double-check the plate before confirming an order. Vignette ID's Flex add-on lets you correct the registered plate on an existing order after purchase, for a fee. ### Fines and enforcement Compliance is checked through SIEGMCR, CNAIR's national rovinieta database, cross-referenced in real time by e-Sigur, an ANPR camera network that also flags speeding and expired insurance. When a camera detects a vehicle without a valid rovinieta, traffic police review the case and issue the penalty notice, posted to the address on the registration certificate for Romanian-registered vehicles. For cars, the fine for driving without a rovinieta runs from about 500 to 1,000 lei, with substantially higher fines for goods vehicles and buses. Paying within 15 calendar days of the notice typically halves the amount owed, and buying a rovinieta afterwards does not cancel a fine already issued. ### Tolls not covered by the rovinieta Some Danube crossings are charged separately and are not included in the rovinieta. The Fetesti-Cernavoda bridge on the A2 motorway and the Giurgeni-Vadu Oii bridge on DN2A, both common routes to the Black Sea coast, each carry their own per-crossing toll; Fetesti-Cernavoda is collected automatically by ANPR cameras, while Giurgeni-Vadu Oii is currently paid only at the barrier, in cash or by card. The two road bridges into Bulgaria are also tolled independently of either country's vignette: the Giurgiu-Ruse bridge (Podul Prieteniei) on DN5, where CNAIR runs its own electronic toll platform on the Romanian side, and the Calafat-Vidin bridge on DN56, tolled on the Bulgarian side. Both need a separate payment on top of a valid Romanian rovinieta and, once across, a Bulgarian vignette. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a rovinieta for Romania if I am only driving through? A: Yes. The rovinieta covers the national road network, including the motorways and national roads used for transit, so it is needed even for a short crossing unless your entire route stays inside a town's built-up limits. Q: Can I buy the Romanian rovinieta online before I arrive? A: Yes. It is bought against your licence plate and vehicle category, and you can choose a start date in advance so it is already active when you cross the border. Q: What details do I need to buy a Romanian rovinieta? A: The licence plate and the vehicle category are enough for a 1-day rovinieta. For 10-day, 30-day, 60-day and 12-month periods CNAIR also requires the VIN (chassis number), so have the vehicle registration document ready. Q: Is the Romanian rovinieta a sticker or fully digital? A: It is fully digital and linked to your licence plate in CNAIR's national database. No sticker is issued or needs to be displayed on the windscreen. Q: What is the fine for driving in Romania without a valid rovinieta? A: For cars the fine typically runs from about 500 to 1,000 lei, with much higher amounts for goods vehicles and buses. Paying within 15 days of the notice usually halves the amount. Q: Does the rovinieta cover the Fetesti-Cernavoda or Giurgiu-Ruse bridges? A: No. Both are charged separately from the rovinieta with their own per-crossing toll, as is the Giurgeni-Vadu Oii bridge on DN2A and the Calafat-Vidin bridge into Bulgaria. Q: Do I need a separate rovinieta for a trailer or caravan? A: No. The fee is charged only on the towing vehicle's category; a trailer or caravan attached to it does not need its own rovinieta. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying a rovinieta? A: The rovinieta is tied to the plate entered at purchase, so a change normally means the vehicle is no longer matched to it. Vignette ID's Flex add-on lets you update the registered plate on an order after purchase for a fee. Q: Will the new TollRo system in October 2026 change the rovinieta for my car? A: No. TollRo replaces the flat-fee rovinieta only for goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes from 1 October 2026. Cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes continue to use the same rovinieta with the same validity periods. ### Sources - CNAIR - Official rovinieta tariff table (January 2026) - Roviniete.ro (CNAIR-authorised distributor) - Roviniete.ro - rovinieta legislation summary - CNAIR - Rovinieta: questions and answers - CESTRIN - SIEGMCR (national rovinieta system) - Cod Rutier - e-Sigur traffic monitoring system - Curs de Guvernare - CNAIR announcement on rovinieta and TollRo tariffs from 1 October 2026 - InfoCons - Fetesti-Cernavoda bridge toll - InfoCons - Giurgeni-Vadu Oii bridge toll - e-TGP - Giurgiu-Ruse (Podul Prieteniei) electronic toll - Vidin-Calafat Bridge - official toll charges - Promotor.ro - rovinieta rules for trailers and caravans ## Bulgaria vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-bg Official toll operator: National Toll Administration (Национално тол управление), Road Infrastructure Agency (BGTOLL) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Bulgaria's e-vignette is a digital road-use charge for cars, vans and motorhomes up to 3.5 tonnes, checked automatically against your licence plate on the country's motorways and first- and second-class roads. It has been fully electronic since 2019, so there is no sticker to buy or display. Buy it through Vignette ID and it is normally activated within a few minutes of payment being verified, ready before you reach the border. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A): 1-day 9.95 EUR, 7-day 15.75 EUR, 1-month 26.45 EUR, 3-month 43.45 EUR, annual 73.45 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-bg-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B): 1-day 10.95 EUR, 7-day 16.75 EUR, 1-month 27.45 EUR, 3-month 44.45 EUR, annual 74.45 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-bg-2b ### Which roads require a vignette Bulgaria's electronic vignette (e-vinetka) is issued by the National Toll Administration, a specialised unit of the Road Infrastructure Agency (API), through the bgtoll.bg portal. It covers the paid part of the state road network defined by Council of Ministers Resolution No. 680 of 2022: motorways, first-class roads and second-class roads, and has been fully electronic and plate-based, with no sticker, since 1 January 2019. Only motor vehicles with at least four wheels and a maximum permissible mass of up to 3.5 tonnes need the e-vignette. Vehicles with fewer than four wheels, such as motorcycles, are exempt, along with agricultural and forestry machinery and vehicles of the emergency services, armed forces and Ministry of Interior. Vehicles above 3.5 tonnes are not covered by the vignette at all and use a separate distance-based toll instead. ### Vehicle categories and validity periods Bulgarian law defines one light-vehicle band for everything up to 3.5 tonnes, so there are no height or engine classes as in Slovenia: a car, a van and a category M1 motorhome are charged on the same official tariff. If a car and its trailer together weigh more than 3.5 tonnes, the trailer needs its own matching vignette regardless of axle count. Bulgaria offers weekend, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual validity, and since 3 February 2026 also a one-day option valid for 24 hours from activation, aimed at short transit trips. See the price table above for the periods you can order here. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, so vignette tariffs are now set in euro rather than leva. On 1 August 2026 the government raised all vignette tariffs by around 30 percent, the first increase since the electronic system launched in 2019, with the extra revenue earmarked for road maintenance and safety works. ### Buying and activation The Bulgarian e-vignette has been digital-only since January 2019: there is no sticker to display, and validity is checked electronically against the vehicle's registration plate. Buying through Vignette ID follows the same logic — the vignette is registered to your plate, payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and activation is normally completed within a few minutes of payment being verified. No account is required, and you can choose a start date in advance; a Flex add-on lets you change the registered plate after purchase for a fee. If a vehicle's registration plate changes after a vignette has been bought, the owner must notify the Road Infrastructure Agency within three working days, giving the chassis number and old and new plates, so the remaining validity can be moved across. ### Fines and enforcement Enforcement is carried out by the National Toll Administration together with Ministry of Interior traffic police, using a nationwide network of fixed cameras and mobile patrol units that read plates automatically. A driver stopped without a valid e-vignette can pay a lower compensatory fee on the spot or settle it by bank transfer within 14 days; introducing this compensatory fee did not remove the underlying fine for non-payment. If neither is paid in time, the case proceeds as a full administrative fine, which is set in law at a fixed amount for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and several times higher for heavier categories. Bulgaria switched to the euro on 1 January 2026, so check the current figure on bgtoll.bg rather than relying on older leva amounts. Either way, buying a vignette as soon as you notice the gap, and paying the compensatory fee if you are stopped, costs less than letting the case become a fine. ### Tolls not covered by the vignette The e-vignette only covers the paid road network of motorways and first- and second-class roads; it does not cover every river crossing to Romania. Both Danube Bridge 1 at Ruse-Giurgiu and Danube Bridge 2 at Vidin-Calafat charge their own separate crossing fee, paid online through the Customs Agency's portal rather than through bgtoll.bg, so a valid vignette does not cover the bridge crossing itself. Heavy goods vehicles and buses over 3.5 tonnes do not use the vignette at all. Since 1 March 2020 they pay a distance-based, GNSS-tracked toll on the same road network, charged per kilometre and varying by weight, axle count and emissions class, with a prepaid single-journey route card (valid 24 hours) available for occasional trips. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vignette for Bulgaria if I only drive through on the motorway? A: Yes. Any car, van or motorhome up to 3.5 tonnes using Bulgaria's motorways or first- and second-class roads needs a valid e-vignette for the whole time it is on those roads, even for a short transit journey; the one-day option added in February 2026 is designed for exactly this kind of trip. Q: Is the Bulgarian vignette digital or a sticker? A: It is fully digital. Since 1 January 2019 the Bulgarian e-vignette has been checked electronically against your licence plate by camera, so there is no sticker to buy or display. Q: Do motorcycles need a Bulgarian vignette? A: No. The e-vignette only applies to motor vehicles with at least four wheels and a maximum mass of up to 3.5 tonnes, so motorcycles and other vehicles with fewer wheels are exempt. Q: What is the fine for driving without a vignette in Bulgaria? A: If you are caught without a valid e-vignette you can usually pay a lower compensatory fee on the spot or within 14 days. If that is not paid, the case becomes a full administrative fine, set in law at a fixed amount for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes and several times higher for heavier ones; since Bulgaria adopted the euro in January 2026, check the current amount on bgtoll.bg. Q: Does the Bulgarian vignette cover the Danube bridges to Romania? A: No. Danube Bridge 1 at Ruse-Giurgiu and Danube Bridge 2 at Vidin-Calafat charge their own separate crossing fee through the Customs Agency, on top of any vignette you need for the Bulgarian road network. Q: Can I buy the Bulgarian vignette online before I arrive? A: Yes. The e-vignette is registered to your licence plate before you cross the border, and you can choose the start date in advance so it is already active when you arrive. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying a Bulgarian vignette? A: With Vignette ID's Flex add-on you can update the registered plate after purchase for a fee. Without it, a plate change on the vehicle itself must be reported to the Road Infrastructure Agency within three working days so the remaining validity can be moved across. Q: Do trucks and buses use the same vignette as cars? A: No. Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, including most trucks and buses, do not use the vignette at all; since March 2020 they pay a separate distance-based toll charged per kilometre on the same road network. ### Sources - BG TOLL - Frequently asked questions - BG TOLL - About the National Toll Administration - BG TOLL - Distance-based toll for heavy vehicles - BG TOLL - What the compensatory fee means - BTA (Bulgarian News Agency) - one-day vignette uptake - BNT News - government approves new vignette tariffs from 1 August 2026 - Ruse Chamber of Commerce - Danube Bridge crossing fee via Customs Agency ## Moldova vignette URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/about-md Official toll operator: S.A. Administrația Națională a Drumurilor (National Road Administration) (e-Vinieta) Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Moldova's vinieta is a road-use charge for vehicles registered outside the country; cars registered in Moldova pay a separate annual road tax instead. It applies on all public roads, not only the main national routes, and is issued electronically against the vehicle's licence plate through the government's e-Vinieta system. Buy it online before you reach the border and it is ready within minutes, with no sticker to display. ### Prices at Vignette ID (incl. service fee) - car (Vignette 2A): 7-day 9.95 EUR, 15-day 14.95 EUR, 1-month 23.35 EUR, 3-month 52.95 EUR, 6-month 93.55 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-md-2a - van / minibus (Vignette 2B): 7-day 11.55 EUR, 15-day 16.55 EUR, 1-month 23.85 EUR, 3-month 52.85 EUR, 6-month 94.55 EUR — https://vignette.id/product/vignette-md-2b ### Which roads require Moldova's vinieta The vinieta is administered by S.A. Administrația Națională a Drumurilor (the National Road Administration, ANDS), under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, through the official e-Vinieta system at evinieta.gov.md. It applies to every vehicle that is not registered in the Republic of Moldova and is required on all public roads in the country, not only on the busiest national routes, for as long as the vehicle is on Moldovan territory. Vehicles registered in Moldova do not buy a vinieta. Their owners instead pay a separate annual road tax collected by the State Fiscal Service and linked to the periodic technical inspection, so the two charges never apply to the same vehicle at the same time. A small number of vehicles are exempt, including those used by diplomatic missions and consular offices, foreign-registered vehicles covered by international road transport authorisations, and vehicles temporarily imported by returning residents under specific customs regimes. ### Vehicle categories and validity periods The charge is set by vehicle type. Passenger cars and their trailers fall under tariff category 8703, the category most drivers need; separate categories cover buses with 9 to 24 seats, buses with more than 25 seats, and trucks or tractor units grouped by maximum authorised mass, with the rate doubled for vehicles carrying dangerous goods. Moldova's tax legislation sets the vinieta in fixed blocks rather than by the day, and for cars the periods available here run from 7 days up to 180 days: 7, 15, 30, 90 and 180 days. Rates are fixed in euros regardless of the currency you pay with; see the price table above for the current options. - Cars and their trailers (tariff category 8703) - Buses with 9 to 24 seats - Buses with more than 25 seats - Trucks and tractor units up to 3.5 tonnes - Trucks and tractor units from 3.5 to 10 tonnes - Trucks and tractor units from 10 to 40 tonnes ### Buying and activating the vinieta The Moldova vinieta is fully electronic and is registered against your licence plate, so there is no sticker to display on the windscreen. Buy it online before you set off or right up to the moment you cross the border and choose the start date yourself: Moldova gives no grace period after entry, so the vinieta must already be valid once you are on Moldovan territory. Moldova asks for more than the plate: an order needs the vehicle's VIN (chassis number) and the driver's details as well, so keep the registration document and the driver's passport or licence to hand before you start. Enter the plate using Latin letters only, without spaces or hyphens, since Cyrillic characters are not accepted and a mismatched plate can make the vinieta invalid at a roadside check. With Vignette ID, the vinieta is delivered by e-mail and kept in your account, normally within a few minutes of your payment being confirmed; you can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and no account is required to buy. A Flex add-on lets you update the registered plate after purchase for a fee if your vehicle or travel plans change. ### Fines and enforcement Vinieta validity is checked by border police and customs officers at Moldova's border crossing points, who compare the plate on your vehicle against the e-Vinieta database. Driving without a valid vinieta is a contravention under Moldova's Contravention Code and carries a fine of 2,250 to 9,000 Moldovan lei, with repeat offences in the same year penalised more heavily. Paying the fine does not remove the underlying obligation: you must still buy a vinieta covering the period the vehicle was on Moldovan roads. If you realise you forgot to buy one, do it online as soon as possible rather than waiting until you leave the country. ### Tolls not covered by the vinieta Moldova does not operate separate section tolls, tunnel charges or bridge tolls of the kind found in some neighbouring countries. The vinieta for foreign-registered vehicles and the annual road tax for Moldovan-registered vehicles are the only nationwide charges for using the public road network, so a valid vinieta is not followed by a toll booth further along the route. ### Good to know for foreign drivers Most vinieta buyers arrive with EU-registered or Ukrainian-registered vehicles, either transiting Moldova or visiting for a short stay, and both groups need the same vinieta. Specific rules have applied at times to vehicles entering or transiting from Ukraine, so check the current requirement before you travel if you are crossing that border. Keep your payment confirmation accessible on your phone, since it is the document a border officer or police patrol will ask to see if your plate cannot be matched electronically. ### FAQ Q: Do I need a vinieta for Moldova if I am only driving through the country? A: Yes. The vinieta is required for any vehicle registered outside Moldova that uses Moldovan public roads, including a short transit journey with no planned stops. Q: What do I need to buy a Moldova vinieta? A: Besides the licence plate and vehicle category, a Moldovan vinieta order requires the vehicle's VIN (chassis number) and the driver's details. Have the vehicle registration document and the driver's passport or licence ready before you order. Q: Can I buy the Moldova vinieta online before I arrive? A: Yes, the vinieta is bought online in advance and you choose the start date yourself. Buying before you reach the border avoids any gap, since Moldova does not give a grace period after entry. Q: Is the Moldova vinieta a sticker or fully digital? A: It is fully digital and registered to your licence plate. There is no sticker to display, and validity is checked electronically at border crossings. Q: What is the fine for driving in Moldova without a valid vinieta? A: The fine ranges from 2,250 to 9,000 Moldovan lei under the Contravention Code, and you are still required to buy a vinieta for the period already driven even after paying the fine. Q: Do Moldovan-registered cars also need to buy a vinieta? A: No. Cars registered in Moldova pay a separate annual road tax collected through the technical inspection process instead of the vinieta, which applies only to foreign-registered vehicles. Q: Can I change the licence plate after buying a Moldova vinieta? A: Yes, the Flex add-on lets you update the registered plate after purchase for a fee if you change vehicles or your plans. Q: Does the Moldova vinieta cover all roads, or only motorways? A: It covers all public roads in Moldova, not just the main national routes, so it is required even away from the busiest highways. Q: Is there a grace period to buy the vinieta after crossing the Moldovan border? A: No. The vinieta must already be valid at the moment your vehicle enters Moldovan territory, so buy it before or right at the point of crossing. ### Sources - e-Vinieta official portal – About - e-Vinieta – Useful information - e-Vinieta – Legislation - e-Vinieta – Frequently asked questions - S.A. Integrate the REST API, drop in an iframe checkout, or sell manually through the partner panel with no development at all. Start in the sandbox, test the full order flow, then switch to production when ready. ### What you get on one connection Instead of integrating a separate toll authority per country, you connect once and reach official vignette products for cars, vans and motorcycles across Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, plus Austria's Alpine section tolls (Brenner, Tauern, Katschberg, Karawanken, Arlberg, Gleinalm and Bosruck) that sit outside the ordinary vignette. Every product comes from the national provider, not a third-party markup added silently on top: the catalogue returns the government price and your fee as separate fields, so what you show a customer and what you keep is never a mystery. ### Three ways to integrate Pick the integration that matches how much control you need and how much engineering time you have. - REST API: full control over the catalogue, checkout and order lifecycle inside your own product and currency. Suits developers building a custom checkout, booking flow or backend automation. - Iframe or embeddable widget checkout: a hosted checkout dropped into your page or app, with a redirect back to you on success or failure. Suits teams that want a working purchase flow fast without owning payment logic. - Partner panel: a dashboard for creating and managing orders by hand, no code required. Suits agents and brokers selling case by case, and doubles as the place every partner tests and monitors orders regardless of integration. ### What the API actually does It covers the full order lifecycle, not just a product list: query the live catalogue by country, product type, vehicle type and currency, check whether a country or period is available before rendering checkout, validate a vehicle before payment, and validate a full order before committing it. Orders placed through the API and orders already created in your own system can both be reflected in Vignette ID, the latter as external orders, keeping your records and the provider side in sync. Orders can be modified, pending or deferred orders cancelled, and a single flow can mix countries and vehicle types. ### Pricing and your commission The products endpoint returns three figures for every item: the government price set by the national provider, your partner fee, and the total price the end customer pays with your fee already included. That separation shows your margin per product, per country and per vehicle type, rather than making you reverse-engineer it from one blended number. Prices can be requested in your own currency, including EUR, UAH, USD, PLN and HUF among others. Commission mechanics, revenue-share terms and any deposit are set out in the cooperation agreement drawn up for your account once you register; those figures depend on your payment model and volume, so they belong in that agreement rather than in marketing copy. ### Getting started Register through the partner form to receive separate sandbox and production API keys. Log in to the partner panel to invite developers, configure your webhook and redirect URLs, and reach the revenue calculator that drafts your cooperation agreement based on the payment model you choose. Build and test entirely against the sandbox host first: create orders, trigger webhook events, and exercise cancellations and modifications without touching real payments or real government systems. Production credentials activate once the agreement is signed. An integration call with the team is available if you want to walk through the API or iframe setup first. ### Operational details worth knowing before you integrate The product catalogue endpoint is rate-limited per partner per minute, with more headroom available as your volume grows; cache catalogue data rather than polling it for every checkout, and prefer webhooks over repeatedly polling an order's status. Some products carry conditions checkout needs to handle: certain countries only allow a start date from tomorrow rather than today, and some require a VIN or additional driver details before the order can be created. Validating a vehicle and reading a product's restrictions before checkout avoids failed orders at payment time. Orders move through a defined lifecycle from creation to an active, usable vignette, with distinct states for orders awaiting a provider's response, orders deferred to a future start date, and orders that end in cancellation or refund. Configure a webhook so your system updates automatically on every status change. ### Who this is for Travel agencies and tour operators adding road tolls to an existing booking flow. Insurance brokers bundling a vignette with a policy. Fleet and mobility apps covering vehicles crossing multiple countries. Car rental firms covering a customer for the rental period. Developers and system integrators who want a documented API and a sandbox rather than a manual process. ### Partner FAQ Q: Is there a sandbox I can test against before going live? A: Yes. Registering as a partner gives you separate sandbox and production API keys, and the sandbox supports the full order flow, including webhook events, cancellations and modifications, without touching real payments or real government systems. Q: Which countries and products are covered? A: Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova, covering vignette and tunnel products for cars, vans and motorcycles, including Austria's Alpine section tolls that sit outside the ordinary vignette. Q: Can I sell in a currency other than euros? A: Yes. The product catalogue can be requested in your own currency, including EUR, UAH, USD, PLN and HUF among others, with your commission already reflected in the total price returned. Q: Do I have to build my own checkout, or is there a ready-made one? A: Both are available. You can build a fully custom checkout against the REST API, or use the iframe or embeddable widget checkout for a working purchase flow with a redirect back to you on success or failure. Q: Do I need to write any code at all? A: No. The partner panel lets you create and manage orders manually with no development, which suits brokers and agents who sell case by case. Every partner, whatever integration they use, can also use the panel to monitor and test orders. Q: How does cancelling or modifying an order work? A: An order can be modified after creation, and pending or deferred orders can be cancelled through the API or the partner panel. Whether a completed, active vignette can be cancelled depends on the national provider's own rules for that country and product. Q: What information do I need to place an order? A: At minimum the product, country, vehicle type and licence plate, validated up front through the vehicle validation endpoint. Some countries additionally require a VIN or driver details, and some only allow a start date from tomorrow rather than today, which the product data tells you before checkout. Q: Who is the contracting entity behind the API? A: Vignette ID's partner API and cooperation agreements are operated by Vignette ID s. r. o., based in Bratislava, Slovakia. ## Balkanian TollBox (on-board toll device) URL: https://e-vignettes.eu/tollboxes Facts last reviewed: 2026-09-08 Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia each run their own electronic toll system, with their own tag, their own account and their own point of sale. The Balkanian TollBox is the device we ship you so you can use the electronic toll lane in all four countries on a single order, instead of sourcing and registering a separate national tag at each border. It does not replace a vignette anywhere else in Europe, only tolls in these four countries. ### What the Balkanian TollBox does One purchase, one device, four national toll systems handled for you. Instead of buying and registering a Croatian ENC tag, a Serbian TAG, a Montenegrin ENP tag and a North Macedonian ETC tag separately, you mount the TollBox once and use the marked electronic lane at toll plazas in all four countries. It suits a single road trip through the region as well as years of regular travel between these countries. We offer plans of different lengths to match either, and delivery is included with every order. ### How tolling works in each country Croatia's motorways are tolled by Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) at barrier plazas, with a dedicated electronic lane (ENC) for vehicles carrying a windscreen-mounted tag, alongside cash and card lanes; the Istrian Y motorway is run separately by its own concessionaire, Bina-Istra. HAC is midway through rolling out a nationwide free-flow system that removes the barriers in favour of overhead cameras and tag readers, with completion targeted for autumn 2026, so the exact lane layout on routes such as the A1 or A6 will keep changing this year. Serbia's motorways are tolled by Putevi Srbije through barrier plazas, with a dedicated ETC lane for vehicles carrying a windscreen-mounted TAG device that debits a prepaid balance automatically as you pass under the antenna, rather than stopping to pay cash. Montenegro's tolled roads are the Sozina tunnel between Podgorica and the coast near Bar, and the Smokovac-Mateševo section of the Bar-Boljare motorway, both run by the state operator Monteput. Monteput's own electronic lane, ENP, works the same way as Serbia's: a windscreen-mounted tag with a prepaid balance, read at low speed ahead of the barrier. North Macedonia's toll stations are run by the Public Enterprise for State Roads at ten toll plazas, where you can pay cash, by card, or through the electronic toll collection system with a tag or smart card; keep the fiscal receipt you are given, since officials can ask to see it. Serbia and North Macedonia already share a cross-border arrangement, Open Balkan ETC, that lets a single registered tag work in both countries. ### Setting it up and using it The TollBox mounts on the inside of your windscreen before you set off, the same way each country's own tag does, and is registered to your licence plate so it is ready before you reach the first toll plaza. From there, you take the marked electronic lane instead of the cash lane at each barrier, slow down as signed, and continue once the barrier lifts. Each country's own system debits your balance automatically as you pass, and our support team can help if a top-up is due before your trip. ### Where the TollBox does not apply The TollBox only covers toll roads in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia. It is not a vignette and does not stand in for one: if your route also crosses Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Romania, Bulgaria or Moldova, those countries still require their own vignette, which we also sell, bought and displayed separately from the TollBox. ### Ordering, delivery and support from us We ship the TollBox directly to you as part of your order, with delivery included, and it arrives ready to register once you activate it. Our support team is available before you set off or while you are on the road, for questions about mounting, registration or which country's electronic lane to use. ### Who the Balkanian TollBox is for Drivers who cross this part of the Balkans regularly, or for a single longer trip: a seasonal drive down the Adriatic coast, a family visit across the region, or a transit toward Greece or Turkey that passes through Serbia and North Macedonia along the way. ### TollBox FAQ Q: Which countries does the Balkanian TollBox cover? A: Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia. It does not work as a toll device in any country outside these four. Q: Do I still need cash for tolls in these four countries? A: Not on the roads covered by each country's own electronic lane. Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro run a dedicated electronic lane at their barrier toll plazas, and North Macedonia's toll stations accept the electronic toll collection system alongside cash and card at all ten of its plazas. Q: Is Croatia replacing its toll barriers? A: Yes. Hrvatske autoceste is rolling out a nationwide free-flow system that reads tags and number plates from cameras mounted over the road instead of stopping vehicles at a barrier, with completion targeted for autumn 2026. Until the rollout is complete everywhere, the existing barrier-based electronic lane remains in use. Q: Do Serbia and North Macedonia share the same toll tag? A: Their national operators run a joint cross-border arrangement called Open Balkan ETC that lets a single registered tag work in both countries. That arrangement is separate from the Balkanian TollBox, which we ship as one order covering all four countries in this guide. Q: Does the TollBox replace a vignette for Austria, Slovenia or other countries? A: No. The TollBox only covers toll roads in Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia. Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova still require their own vignette, which we sell separately. Q: How do I set up the TollBox before my trip? A: It mounts on the inside of your windscreen, the same way a locally bought tag does in each of these countries, and is registered to your licence plate so it is ready before you reach the first toll plaza. Q: What happens if my balance runs low mid trip? A: Each country's own toll system debits your account as you pass through its electronic lane, so a low balance is flagged the same way it would be for a locally registered tag. Our support team can help you check and top up before you travel. Q: Who is the Balkanian TollBox meant for? A: Drivers who cross this part of the Balkans regularly or for a single longer trip, such as a seasonal drive down the Adriatic coast, a family visit across the region, or a transit toward Greece or Turkey through Serbia and North Macedonia. ### Sources - Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) - Electronic toll collection (ENC/ETC) - Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) - Electronic Toll Collection System (free-flow project) - Putevi Srbije - ETC Electronic Toll Collection - Putevi Srbije - Instructions for using the ETC device - Putevi Srbije - Open Balkan ETC information - Monteput - Putarina (toll information) - Monteput - Instructions for use (ENP electronic toll) - Public Enterprise for State Roads - Toll system - Public Enterprise for State Roads - Toll payment methods ## Links - Sitemap: https://e-vignettes.eu/sitemap.xml - Short version: https://e-vignettes.eu/llms.txt - Buy: https://vignette.id/products - Support: seller@vignette.id - Partner API documentation: https://docs.vgnt.app
